Southwest Ohio Public Health Region:

An Introduction

The Southwest Ohio Public Health Preparedness Region is a coalition of 14 city and county health districts that have joined together in an effort to efficiently identify, plan, respond to, and mitigate public health incidents in Southwest Ohio and the surrounding areas.

This region of Ohio contains approximately 1.8 million individuals, most of whom reside in Cincinnati and Hamilton County.  The region as a whole, is a mixture of highly urban areas, including the City of Cincinnati, suburban communities, such as the City of Mason, and rural farm communities, such as Highland County.

In an effort to meet the needs of our region, an Executive Steering Committee (ESC) was established in 2001 to handle the increased responsibilities of public health preparedness, particularly in regards to natural or manmade disease outbreaks.  The ESC is comprised of all local health jurisdiction health commissioners, or their designee who continue to develop regional strategies and policies for emergency preparedness and response.

This website was created to serve three main purposes:

1. To assist the residents of the Southwest Ohio Public Health Region in preparing for incidents,

2. To inform the public about the activities that the region is undertaking towards preparedness,

3. To provide accurate and timely public health information to the public during an       incident.
