Mission Statement: The mission of the Southwest Ohio Public Health Region PIO committee is to provide credible and timely emergency response information services that protect the health and safety of the Southwest Ohio community.

Public Information Officer Work Group

The Public Information Officer (PIO) Work Group has been tasked with developing policies, procedures, guidelines, and content for communication needs that occur during times of emergency.  A PIO is a person appointed by a health department to be responsible for the creating and coordinating the distribution of emergency public information with both the electronic and written media.  The PIO group works diligently to ensure that accurate information is being released to the general public and news media.

Group Overview

The PIO group is currently involved in several projects, including the research and development of a regional emergency information line, developing extended message maps for crisis communication, working towards developing communication methods for special needs populations (non-English speaking, mentally handicapped, vision and hearing impaired, etc.), and developing more content and information for the regional website.

Future activities will involve the creation of emergency communication templates that can be used to quickly communicate to the public during emergencies, the development of website templates for crisis communication, and work on message mapping for crisis communication.
