The Southwest Ohio Public Health Region has initiated an exciting new communications project with the 21st Century Communications company.  This communication project, when completed and operational, will allow public health and other emergency agencies to set up information hotlines, send out mass phone calls to citizens, notify physicians, hospitals, veterinarians, and other health care facilities of emergency information, and perform other functions.

During emergencies, emergency response agencies are often overwhelmed by incoming phone calls from concerned citizens.  21st Century will allow regional hotlines and call banks to be available.  This will allow responders to operate more quickly, and will also provide information to the public in a timely manner.

This system is undergoing monthly tests in each public health jurisdiction.  Public health employees are also undergoing training to more effectively use the system.
